We are Gus (Goose) and Jessie (Ragmop), a couple of weirdos with a yearning for art and adventure!
We created this blog to document our lives, adventures, the projects we work on together, and simultaneously hope to spark interest and inspiration in fellow artists, individuals, and couples out there in search of a creative outlet. Between the two of us, we make up a Swiss Army Knife of artistic and creative skills and passions, and we are delighted to share our process with anyone who is interested in reading about all of it!
Gus was born and raised in the small town of Garland, Texas and moved to New York for college where he received a degree in acting at the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. He lived in New York for five years before moving to LA in 2015 to further pursue his acting career. After training as a member on the Urban Outfitter’s Art Installation and Display team, his existing love for art and all things crafty grew even larger, resulting in launching his own wood working and furniture design business Shoulda Wooda Coulda.
If Paul Bunyan and MacGyver had a baby, it would have been Gus. His crafty and clever ability to troubleshoot anything and love for the outdoors make him a force to be reckoned with. It wasn’t uncommon to find a young Gus flattening pennies by some old train tracks or gutting an old, broken record player and putting it back together again just to see how the mechanics of it work. Growing up with a combination of education styles (homeschool, private school, and public school) gave him a diverse upbringing, allowing him to explore many different hobbies including art, painting, baseball, football, dancing, acting, woodworking, and even juggling.
Today he is still practicing many of these hobbies and then some, while eagerly searching to add more skills to his toolbox.
Though Jessie spent most of her life growing up in Las Vegas, Nevada, she was born in Chicago, Illinois, where she spent her summers and Christmases with her extended family. She studied Commercial Photography at the College of Southern Nevada, and after receiving her degree, moved to Los Angeles, CA in 2012 to pursue an art and photography career. She is self-employed as an artist and photographer and loves every moment of it!
Growing up as an artist, Jessie was always enthralled by art and cartoons. She was watching Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and PBS well into her teenaged years, fascinated by the puppetry on Sesame Street or art direction of shows like The Powerpuff Girls, Ed Edd and Eddy, and The Simpsons. A young entrepreneur, she was often scheming up ways to make money which led to several successful businesses. In 1999, she and a colleague [next door neighbor/best friend] opened up Lemonade Stand, a small shop front that sold fresh [organic] lemonade in their front yard for a hefty 25 cents per cup. After bringing in profits of dozens of dollars, she invested it in her other companies such as Lawn Raking, Door to Door EZ-Bakeries, My Dad’s Leftover Pizza, and even private drawing classes tailored to the art of Pokémon.
Today, she is still exercising her creativity in numerous ways by dabbling in sculpture, painting, puppet making, photography, music, cinematography, and multi-media art.
So how did we meet? Tinder, of course! We matched up with each other on the day Gus moved to Los Angeles and the rest is history! Our connection and chemistry was instantaneous. We spend our time together going on hikes, road trips, collaborating on art pieces, inspiring and encouraging each other, dancing, acting silly, and supporting each other through thick and thin. We are now happily engaged and excited to get married in August of 2016!
Our engagement sparked the idea to document this journey of ours on a blog platform, and we are so excited to share the experiences we have together with you!
